Finance/Business Analyst

Summary

Position Summary
The position of Financial and Business Analyst is established to correctly measure, thoroughly analyze and clearly communicate levels of financial risk exposure to the V.P., Business Operations. The Finance/business Analyst will measure, analyze and communicate the costs and benefits of products and services to the V.P., Business Operations; lead and support business development cost and price estimates and proposal generation using historical data, bottoms-up estimated data and parametric pricing methods; and lead and support existing programs for financial and business analysis and program planning and control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist V.P., Business Operations in preparing for future rate conditions.
• Guided by the V.P., Business Operations, express the business plan in the form of a target balance sheet, including pricing, the timing of re-pricing and member options granted.
• Assist V.P., Business Operations in preparation of annual budget, incorporating interest rate forecasts and volume projections into budget.
• Assist management in developing assumptions regarding the volumes of business which could be expected under the current business plan and under alternative strategies, in conjunction with each of the scenarios identified for future rate conditions.
• Assist in the evaluation of assumptions for reasonableness and consistency, calling to the attention of the V.P., Business Operations those assumptions which appear to be unreasonable or inconsistent.
• Enter data, representing assumptions, into the financial risk simulation model.
• Gather current position data; check for reasonableness, consistency and errors; enter data into the financial simulation model.
• Perform interest rate risk analysis using a simulation model to measure current and planned exposures of net interest income and capital to interest rate risk.
• Communicate levels and sources of financial and interest rate risk exposure.
• Prepare monthly reports for ALCO which include Balance Sheet and Income Statement forecasts, interest rate forecast, projections regarding interest rate spreads, CAMEL ratios, GAP analyses, and rate shock analyses. Prepare monthly loan and deposit rate shops and ad hoc analyses.
• Maintain investment portfolio information on income simulation model.
• Prepare projections on individual investments that may be considered for purchase.
• Reconcile forecasts of net interest income and the market value of portfolio equity with operating results and report the variances and reasons.
• Perform cost analysis of credit union products, services, programs and departments presently in place and proposed.
• Prepare monthly analyses of product profitability using cost accounting software. Continually review methodology to improve and enhance results. Work with the Marketing Analyst for use of results in MCIF System.
• Conduct cost/benefit analysis and/or breakeven analysis for various projects assigned by the V.P., Business Operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
• BS Degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance. MS Degree in Business or Finance preferred.
• 10 plus years of overall finance or business management experience and at least 4 years financial modeling experience.
• Experience in leading and coordinating Cost Volume Proposals in new business acquisition.
• Ability to understand management's business plan and management's assumptions regarding the range of possible future rate conditions for which to prepare.
• Successful experience as an interest rate risk analyst using a comprehensive interest rate risk simulation model in a financial institution of similar complexity.
• Experience in performing cost analysis of financial products and services.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Skilled in standard Office software; Advanced skill using Excel as an analytic tool preferred.
